Jughead, are you being serious?

Yeah. I'm at the theater but I can be back at the apartment in a few minutes.

Okay.

[ and he's there, just as he says, with a bag of burgers and some shakes from pop's. when he gets inside the apartment, he sets it all down on the coffee table and settles onto the couch with a look of displeasure on his face. he'd really expected archie to fess up to betty, but now that he has to explain things, jughead is annoyed with his best friend. but there's not much he can do now. cat's out of the bag, and all that. so he takes a deep breath. ]

Betty?

[ betty doesn't know what to make of it. okay, so yes, there were years that she was in love with archie andrews, that kissing him was one of the things she wanted to do most. but that time has past, that betty cooper was gone. and she was completely in love with jughead.

some bad things must have happened, things must have changed drastically...]

Please tell me it was something stupid like a dare or spin the bottle. [ given the way jughead's expression sits on his face, she thinks that's not the case.]

[ if only that were the case. it might've made stomaching the whole thing a little easier. it had pissed him off enough when archie first told him ( he'd wanted to punch his best friend ), but he let it go once archie apologized. and then he figured archie would tell betty too. but leaving her out of the loop was just not cool and jughead continues to frown as he shrugs off his serpent jacket. ]

I wish it was. Archie told me when he showed up. After finding out he's from the future and all that, he admitted he and you kissed on the night you two tracked down the Black Hood. Damnit, I can't believe he didn't tell you too.

[ she knew about the black hood, archie had filled her in on that at least. but this whole kissing part had been left out. and well, she isn't completely surprised. archie probably didn't want to make things awkward. telling anyone would only make things tense and here, that's the last thing they need.

but apparently, he'd told jughead. again, not surprising because archie was a good guy and maybe he didn't want to lie to his friend. she stays standing, crossing her arms over her chest as she tries to process this.]

Maybe he didn't want things to be awkward. [ she looks at him.] Are you okay?

[ what betty says makes sense and he nods in agreement, but the frown doesn't leave his face. sure, not making things awkward might be nice, but jughead has always preferred the truth be known and that honesty won out. here, he's been stuck with the task of telling betty because archie was too... whatever to do it himself. and that bugs him.

he heaves a sigh and looks up at her. there's no anger in his expression, especially not for her. after all, it hasn't happened for either of them yet and from what archie told him, it had been at a time when they'd been broken up ( not that he can imagine that, because he can't. why the hell would he ever break up with the girl he loves? ). so he's not mad at her. he's not even sure he's mad at archie because he can understand why he didn't say anything, even if jughead doesn't like it. ]

C'mere. I'm alright. Not gonna lie, I was pretty pissed at Archie when he told me, but... I mean, it hasn't even happened for us yet. Maybe something will somehow change.

[ for a few moments, betty feels as though she might be punished for something she does in the future. she can't apologize for it, she doesn't know why it happens. she can only make assumptions or guesses. but she can't imagine why she would ever kiss archie when she's with jughead. even now, she doesn't feel any desire to kiss her friend.

she only wants the guy sitting on the couch in front of her. and even as he beckons her over, he says something that bothers her, her own lips curving downward into a frown.]

I don't want something to change. I love you, Jug. I've never loved anyone the way I love you and no one has ever... I've never felt as comfortable to be myself around anyone else.

[ pushing himself up to stand when she doesn't join him, he crosses the distance between them and settles a hand at her hip. his other comes up to caress her cheek and he meets her eyes, his own serious. What she says is all he wants to hear. Even if he knows archie wouldn't lie to him about anything in the future, he still wants it all to be untrue. he hates the idea of being separated from her and expresses this by tilting up her chin a little. ]

And I love you. That'll never change. I guess whatever comes for us in the future, we'll face together.

[ she doesn't look away from him, her gaze meets his as he reassures her. but even as he touches her, even as he stands before her and tells her they'll face the future together, she wonders how things get as bad as they do and what outside forces might drive them apart.

she offers him a brave sort of smile, one hand lifting to touch his cheek, the other moves to lay just at his shoulder, thumb sliding over the side of his neck.] Yeah, [ she agrees, her smile still twinged with worry.] The only person I want to kiss is you, for the record.

[ leaning into the touch, he smirks a little, corners of his lips lifting. she's so beautiful it makes his heart beat a little harder in his chest and he brushes his nose against hers. ]

Same. You're the only person I want to kiss.

[ she smiles at that, liking the way he looks when he smirks. or well, liking the way he looks all the time. ]

Veronica is right though... [ she teases softly, running her lips over his but not quite kissing him.] Kind of strange how almost all of us have kissed.

[ and he loves seeing her smile too. it's so beautiful on her and he can't help the beating in his chest that intensifies every time he sees it. his heart is already beating hard for her, and seeing her smile makes him want to kiss her. especially as she brushes her lips against his. ]

Trust me, it is strange. I hardly count what Archie and I did as kissing anyway. It was practically all teeth. But in desperate times come desperate measures.

[ maybe she shouldn't want to kiss her boyfriend while he talks about the fact he kissed another guy but she does. she wants to kiss him, she wants to be kissed by him.]

What do you count as kissing?

[ meanwhile, jug isn't even thinking about archie anymore. he's too distracted by the way his girlfriend's lips move. he brushes his own against her's before responding. ]

[ and then he's kissing her. slow and passionate, pouring his adoration and love for her into it. ]

[ she kisses back, arching her body closer to his as her hand leaves his cheek and moves to tangle in the hair at the back of his scalp.

by the time her lungs burn and demand air, she's dizzy with the way he kisses her. how could anyone else make her feel that way? or anywhere close to it. she's pretty sure they can't. ]
